Our Impact

Educate

4th Annual “We Trees!” art contest for grades K through 6th highlighting the benefits of trees. Through children and art TFHF, along with Healthy Climate Communities, brings attention to our hardworking arbor friends. Pivoting to hold this event virtually is fitting during this time when people are increasingly appreciating nature and the value of trees, particularly in urban areas.

Act

Community-based Trees for Kaimukī project in cooperation with EnVision Kaimukī, SmartTrees Pacific, and the National Park Service’s Rivers, Trails, and Conservation Assistance Program. Milestones to date:

  • Assisted Better Block Hawaii by placing 3 trees in planters that double as tables. A perfect place for outdoor dining during these pandemic times and beyond; includes tree tags to educate — you can even email a tree to say “hi”.
  • Mapped 1,446 trees — 99% complete; thus far identifying over 130 potential planting locations
  • Secured two national and one local grant in support of activities
  • Stepped in to help save drought-stressed trees along Ft. Ruger Pathway at Diamond Head State Monument
  • Produced “Secrets of Kaimukī Parks” virtual program
  • Collaborated with City to improve 18 tree wells in central Kaimukī business district along Waialae Avenue
